ParaSim™, the Virtual Reality Parachute Simulator developed by Systems Technology, Inc. of Hawthorne, CA., is an interactive computer-based parachute canopy control and malfunction training system. Parasim accepts inputs from jumpers through ripcords, steering toggles and risers, and presents realistic graphics through VR goggles. ParaSim is in use at over 100 locations worldwide. ParaSim uses regular issue equipment to train Operational, as well as Life-Support procedures. It allows direct instructor-student interaction, and lets the student jumper to experience a number of parachute canopy control and malfunction scenarios. The standard ParaSim installation includes a suspension frame consisting of commercial off-the-shelf components. ParaSim requires the student to be suspended in a training harness. Current procedures require the student to put on the training harness, climb a ladder or stepstool, connect the harness to the risers and don the helmet/VR gear, all while balancing on the ladder. |

Designed by SSK, ParaLift interfaces with the standard ParaSim frame system with no modifications. ParaLift provides a 41” x 68” platform with a 24” vertical lift. This provides ample space for both the student and the instructor to be lifted up to the suspended harness. The 750 pound lift capacity is more than adequate to perform this task, and the 24” vertical lift is sufficient for PLD training.
